SECTION 3: Monthly Regional Overview

No reports filed from any of the ARC’s this month.  Prestige awards have been based upon the work that I know they did.

Where to start?  The region is fractured.  Inter-personal issues that have been allowed to build for months (in some cases years) have all been coming to a head within the last two months.  There are pockets of civility surrounded by pockets of apathy.  My own actions of late in regards to issues in the Domain of Myst have not helped matters.

I allowed myself to play the role of Marionette and danced to the pull of unseen masters.  Upon doing this I violated my own code of ethics.

In an effort to “do the right thing” I allowed myself to be steered upon a course of action that I feel had no lasting value to the region and served no educational purpose.  Thus by “doing the right thing” I feel in retrospect that I did the exact opposite.  I feel that I overstepped my authority as Regional Coordinator and stepped into the role of a Chapter Coordinator to discipline individual members.  This is not an area that I feel comfortable with.  I also feel that by lessening the severity of the disciplinary actions I have taken that I have allowed myself to be viewed as contrary.  It’s a catch 22.  By doing the right thing I did wrong.  By correcting that course of action and doing what I believe to actually be closer to the “right thing” I have lessened the strength of my position.  Some days you just have to wonder why you even got out of bed.  Upon talking briefly with Petra about this, she suggested and I agree that the problem is a lack of understanding on the Chapter Coordinator’s part as to what their responsibilities are in these matters.  This statement is not going to make me any friends among the Chapter Coordinators.  Before you all write back to me and ask what I am referring to, take comfort in knowing that if I haven’t talked to you about this issue, you are not at fault.

That said, I am being called upon more and more often to step into the role of the Chapter Coordinator.  Based upon the issues that I am being confronted with presently, I must state that education seems to be a priority.  With the new NC position now filled the RC’s need to be educated as to what the NC expects of us in regard to performing our duties.

Likewise the DC’s and CC’s need to be educated as to the result of the NC/RC relationship and the RC/DC/CC relationship that will come next.

One huge step that needs to be overcome is the lack of daily communication that is going on in the SW region.  The SW-Coords list has been put into place so that all Coordinators can communicate openly amongst each other.

This list is being very under utilized.  It is there not only for a question/answer tool but also for simple talk between the coordinators.

Starting Last Month Jonni has started to post answers to questions to the SW-Coord list instead of putting them in the report.  This is a trend that I’d like to see continue in the future.  I’d also like to see the Coordinators using the SW-Coord list instead of just the monthly reports to ask these questions.  This way the could get their answer faster than waiting for the Regional Report to come out.  There will always be repeat questions that new coordinators will ask.  These can be answered by other coordinators as easily as they can be answered by me or Jonni.

SECTION 4: Projects

Learning how to torture people?  I shall begin practicing on the members of the SW region as soon as I amass a good collection of “toys”.  I’m hoping that the use of properly applied torture will serve to get everyone to at least pretend to like each other, at least in my presence.

Please understand that the above paragraph was written in jest.
